These boots are definitely made for walking

Well hello there! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I definitely did and I'm even a bit sad it's already over. But luckily there's still New Year's Eve, which I'm pretty excited about by the way because I have a cool outfit to show you. But let's not get ahead and stick with the  outfit  post. This outfit contains many of my favorites. The boots for example! I own them for about a year now and I literally longed for autumn so I could start wearing them again, haha. They are just too beautiful to hide in the closet. Mostly I decide which pair of shoes I want to wear and from there I build up the rest of the outfit. Today was a chilly day so I chose a long knitted cardigan to wear over my dress. To finish up I stacked some necklaces and rings. You guys know how fond I am of jewelry, but I particularly love beautiful pieces with a history behind it. For example the silver ring on the right hand. I bought it two summers ago when I was on vacation in France. It was so beautiful there and I had a great time. So every time I wear the ring I think of my vacation in France. I bought it in a little hidden shop, the kind you normally would pass by without even looking. Well somehow I ended up in that little shop and saw this amazing ring. The stone even changes from color. The other ring on the right hand was my mum's. My father made it himself and gave it to my mother and now I get to wear it. Isn't that the sweetest thing ever?! You're a true romantic, dad ;)

Today I also tried a little something with my hair and I quite like the result. One hundred per cent bohemian approved! What do you guys think?

Have a great end and an even better start of the year, bohomantics!

Party nails

If there is one month of the year to go all the way with glitter, gold and metallics it's defenitely December. Christmas and New Year's Eve are the only holidays when it's totally allowed to go over the top. Enjoy the party season and pull out all the stops! I certainly did with this golden, metallic nail polish from Chanel (with my student budget it's about the only thing I can afford from Chanel :P). The nailpolish is called "Péridot" and honestly they couldn't have chosen a better name. At first sight it seems like your nails are golden, but the color changes in different sorts of light. Depending on how the light falls, the nailpolish has a golden, green or silver color. Peridot is a gemstone variety of forsterite and has that same beautiful intense green, goldish color. It's THE perfect nailpolish to match with your partydress. Whether you combine it with a simple little black dress to spice things up or a glitter sequin dress as a finishing touch.

Happy holidays, Bohomantics!

P.S.: Is it just me or can't you guys stop singing cheesy Christmas songs either?

Pack your bags

The holidays are coming, so it's time to pack your bags, baby! In the photo above you see me with the backpack I use for college. But the times when you only could carry a backpack to go to school, are over. And god, how thankful I am for that. I know many of you probably get horrible flashbacks of primary school, but these days there are so many stylish and classy options. Besides, they don't only come in handy for school, but also on vacation. Whether you go for a citytrip, a staycation or a long stay somewhere at the beach, Mr. Backpack is your friend. So like I said, pack your bags and go outside! You've deserved it! Don't know where to begin and which model to pick? Well, I've selected some cool and sophisticated backpacks to help you on your way. These beauties defenitely don't scream primary school.

P.S.: These backpacks score very well under the Christmas tree!

What's buggin' you?

Hi Bohomantics! I absolutely wanted to show you my new shirt. It has these little colored bugs on it and I just had to buy it. Isn't it adorable? I own the feather earrings for like ages, but I've never worn them up until now. Together with the leopard handbag, they give a fun twist to the outfit. And that's what this outfit was all about: fun! I know it has been a while since I posted an outfit, but I have some cool outfit posts scheduled for you, guys. So defenitely stay tuned!

Life through rose-colored glasses

I think you all know by now I wear glasses. And I don't mean fake hipster ones, no the real stuff. Otherwise I'm as blind as a mole. I'm not even kidding! My eyesight began to worsen about six years ago, so that's when I started wearing glasses and since then I have worn out three different spectacle frames. The ones I'm currently wearing are the red big Prada ones. I never hated wearing them, but I like to alternate between contacts and my 'specs'. There are periods I don't like wearing them anymore and they stay in their case for the whole week (glasses can be such a pain in the ass, especially when it's raining cats and dogs. Why hasn't anyone thought of windscreen wipers ?!) and there are moments I don't take them off anymore. I really see my glasses as an accessory and try to make them part of the outfit I'm wearing. During the years you can see a clear evolution in the frames. I started with a rather discrete one that is actually way to small for my face and ended with a large retro model. For my next frame I want something completely different and also a bit bolder. I made you a collage with some cool numbers to inspire you if your looking for new glasses as well. The green and the tortoise-patterned ones are my favorite.

But before heading to the optician you must keep these things in mind...
  • No matter how beautiful the frame is, if it doesn't fit you face shape, you better opt for another model. Listen to your optician, they are specialists and know what suits you and what not.
  • If you aren't on a strict budget and you are doubting between several frames, don't let you lead by the price. You are going to wear these glasses every single day for a long time and they are a big part of your appearance.
  • This is a rather personal choice, but I prefer synthetic frames over metal ones. In my opinion synthetic frames are way more comfortable, because they are less heavy, don't have these annoying nose pieces (I actually don't have a clue how you call it, but you get me, right?) that cut your skin and it looks younger. Especially when it's your first frame I would defenitely recommend a synthetic frame.
  • I know all these cool colors are very tempting and if you want a bright colored frame you should defenitely give it a go. But keep in mind that next year the 'it-color' of the season can be so passé. And if you wear a lot of orange, maybe you shouldn't go for the green one. But hey, who am I to dictate you what to choose and what not. Pick whatever you like! These tips are just tips, no rules. Besides, Bohomantics never take the rules that serious...
Have a great weekend! SEE you next time ;)

Currently #2: November

Hi Bohomantics! The second currently post is finally here. Sorry for the delay, but I have some personal stuff going on and I couldn't find the time and the strenght to write you cool posts. But no worries, I'm back on track!

CURRENTLY...

  • thinking about: how we all should do whatever makes us happy. If you have plans, hopes, dreams, wishes... don't wait to fulfill them. If there is one thing I've learnt this week, it's that you have to enjoy life, because all at once it can be over. Don't hesitate, don't wait or you will regret it forever. Just jump into it. Not that I'm such a brave adventurer, but I'm getting there. I used to be so hesitant. There are tons of stuff I want to do and my bucket list only gets longer and longer. But a while ago I realized that my bucket list only would stay a random meaningless enumeration of actions if I never actually did something on that list. So that's the point where I decided to start living and do the things I want to do. The blog is one example of that. As far as I can remember I've been interested in fashion since I was a little kid. I wanted to start a blog for a very long time, but I never did. Until I finally took the step. And I don't have one minute's regret. So that's at least one thing on the list I can line through. I just hate laying in bed, going through the past day and have to wonder 'what if...'. And it happens more to me than I want. But like I said, I'm working on it. If you recognize yourself in this, then keep this little mantra in mind: 'Start each day like it's your birthday'. It sounds a bit stupid, but it can give you that extra push you need ;)
  • addicted to: tea! Until two years ago, I absolutely hated tea. I thought it tastes like hot dish water, haha! But one way or another I started to like it and now I'm hooked. I often bring a whole thermos of lemon tea to class. It's nice to warm up after a cold ride on my Vespa and the lemon keeps me awake during the early hours of class. Two birds with one stone. And I think there are way more unhealthier things to be addicted to, right? My favourite is green tea with orange/lemon flavour.
  • watching: The Help. My mother and I have developed a little tradition. Six years ago when we went on vacation together, my mom asked if she could read the book I brought with me, because she was bored. During that vacation we were reading the same copy at the same time. My mom isn't such a reader, but every summer when we go on vacation we read the same book now. We even make a little competition of it and try to finish  the book first. She wins all the time! Anyway, this summer we read The Help from American author Kathryn Stockett. Such a great book. I would recommend it to you all. It's about a future journalist who tries to find her place in the American South of the sixties but can't except the way black helps are treated by their so called madams. Together with two maids she collects the stories of black helps all around Jackson, Mississippi and writes them down in a 'scandalous' book that might bring them all in danger. This month I watched the filmed version. The leads are played by Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Bryce Dallas Howard. All very strong and beautiful actors. Really, if you don't know what film to watch, look no further!
  • purchased: The ones who follow me on Instagram might have seen it already, but there's a new addition to my already massive shoe collection (sorry for being such a cliché, but I do own a lot of shoes... and clothes... and jewelry... I think you get me ;) ). Besides the obligate All Stars I didn't own any pair of sneakers so this was a justified purchase. Mostly I wear heels or boots, but lately I feel like dressing really comfortable. When I saw these babies I fell immediately in love, but I still had my doubts because sneakers just don't look good on me. When I tried them on I was surprised, because they actually were great. Can't wait to show them in an outfitpost!
So that was it for November. I hope you had a lovely month and that December will be even better. Take care!

Fashion reads

Hi Bohomantics! It’s getting colder and days are getting shorter. No other season as perfect to hide under a blanket with a good book and a cup of tea. Not that I have the time right now with all these crazy deadlines, but hey, a girl can dream ;) As a real bookworm and fashionista I own a lot of fashion books. And since this is a fashion blog I thought I could share some of them with you guys.

I'll start off with my favourite. Facehunter is filled with tons of inspirational and stunning pictures from street style photographer Yvan Rodic. Seriously, I get so much inspiration out of his work. When I don't know what to wear or just when I feel like it I leaf through the book. I've done it a million times, but every time I open it I discover something new in his photos. Highly recommended! You can follow his work on www.facehunter.org

As a successful stylist and famous Belgian socialiteTiany Kiriloff has seen the whole world and knows the best addresses to shop, eat, sleep and find unique things. In Tiany Kirilove she shares all those insider's tips with you. The perfect guide for fashionable globetrotters.

Every fashionista longs to have that je-ne-sais-quoi Parisian women have. In La Parisienne Inès de La Fressange, textbook example of the Parisian woman, tells you all the ins and outs of timeless class. I'm absolutely no proponent of rules and certainly not in fashion, but you have to know the rules before you break them. And just look at that beautiful book cover. Speaking of class...

Little Black Book by Belgian fashion blogger Sofie Valkiers is packed with personal stories and her favourite addresses. I think this book is the weakest of my selection, because I have read a lot of similar books and I have a bit the "been there done that-feeling". But if you want to start reading a fashion book and you don't know what to pick, this is a great start. The pictures and lay-out are a big bonus.

And last but defenitely not least is Style Yourself. Successful fashion bloggers from all over the world give you cool styling tips and stimulate you to start experimenting and discover your own style. Many of my favourite fashion bloggers are in it.

So what are you waiting for? Pick one and start reading, looking, being inspired... Enjoy!

P.S.: If you have some favourite fashion books as well, don't hesitate to share on the blog. I'll be happy to hear from you.

The great esCAPE

Hi Bohomantics! Here's another outfitpost to start off the weekend. I've always been a great fan of capes, because of the versatility of the garment. It actually doesn't matter what you wear underneath. A cape makes every outfit chic and sophisticated. The one you see in the picture is so warm and cosy. It almost feels like a blanket. When I saw this beauty hanging in the store, I immediately fell in love with it. Unfortunately they didn't have my size anymore. But all of a sudden I saw a woman passing by with the cape in her hands. She had the same build as me, so I guessed that she must have taken the last one in size S. I didn't pull it out of her hands of course. Imagine that, haha! No, I just went to the fitting room to look if she had given it back to the saleswoman and guess what; she gave it back! Jup, it was written in the stars ;)
I wore a lot of basics, because I wanted the cape to really stand out. A classy bootcut jeans and a simple knit was all it took. The bag is actually quite old, but the dark green gives the color palette a little twist. I'm nothing without my little accessories so I added bright blue earrings and a ring. The red lips and the blowdried hair made me feel extra glam that day.

Days are getting shorter and darker, so it's really hard to shoot outfits in this crappy light. Hope you don't mind the bad lighting...
Happy weekend!

Agenda: MOMU NOW

Hey guys! I'm back again and I brought you a brand new section. From time to time I will update you with must sees and must dos. For the first agenda post I went to Antwerp with my friends for the new Momu exhibition. Momu is a fashion museum which presents two new expositions a year. The most recent exhibition is called MOMU NOW and shows you 'newly added masterpieces of contemporary silhouettes to the Momu collection since 2009'. The pieces that are shown are mainly purchased from contemporary Belgian designers or donated by big foreign fashion houses. What you can expect are stunning silhouettes by designers as Raf Simons, Jill Sander, Balenciaga, Haider Ackermann, Christian Dior, Dries Van Noten and many more. The exhibition is rather small, but I think it's defenitely worth a visit if you're in the neighbourhood or if you combine it with a little shopping spree (or a big one - why not?). MOMU NOW runs until 4 January 2015. What are you waiting for?!

Here's a little selection of my favourite pieces... Enjoy!

How Sunday looks like

Hello there! Today I'll leave you with a short outfitpost. Sundays are all about relaxing (forget about that massive pile of homework on my desk for a minute), comfort and being with family. And that's exactly what I did today. I wore this outfit to grab some lunch in the city with my parents. My favourite black pants and boots, a striped shirt and a camel trench. Nothing more, nothing less. Pretty basic for me, but it's just what I need at the end of a hectic week. What I love about the outfit is that it breathes that je-ne-sais-quoi  Parisian women have. Stay tuned, because there will be a new section on the blog very soon. Enjoy the brand new week, it's full of opportunities...

Tips and tricks for an inspirational life

Hi Bohomantics! I prepared you a special post about inspiration and how to find it, because this is what life makes interesting. Creativity is so important, whether you are an artist or a nine-to-five accountant. It's not only useful for your career, but also for your personal life. But in order to be creative you must find some inspiration first. As a fashion blogger and future journalist I need tons of inspiration for articles and new topics, so I think I'm the perfect person to guide you ;) Most of my tips are very simple and easy to do yourself. They demand only a small adjustment in your life, but oh what a difference they make!

  • It may sound a bit weird, but keep your eyes wide open. From now on you are going to observe everything. And I mean absolutely everything! Instead of checking your phone for the tenth time while waiting for the bus, look around. Observe the environment during your walk to school or work. Glance at the people who pass by. Everything is a potential source of inspiration, you just have to be willing to see it.
  • Always carry a notebook with you. In these modern times you can also use your smartphone to collect all your ideas of course, but this bohomantic still likes it the old skool way (in fact I'm just an old soul in a young body, haha!).
  • Step out your confort zone and get rid of fixed patterns. Routine can be very efficient and comforting, but at the same time be killing for your creativity. Don't worry, you don't have to turn your life upside down and let go of all your routines, but try to do at least one new thing a day. Listen to some classical music instead of your favourite indie band. Order something you've never eaten before at the restaurant. Try out a new route to school. Read a book you'd normally never read. Go sit by that 'shy' boy during lunch, he could turn out to be actually pretty funny. If you are a trouser girl, try out that stunning dress you think is too fancy for you (it won't bite, I promise!)... The possibilities are endless. Just try fresh stuff and discover new places, you will be surprised by the impact of it. If Columbus hadn't decided to search for a new route to India, we Europeans wouldn't be able to make delicious french fries now. Think about that!
  • Forget everything you ever learned about limits, conventions, possibilities... and think out of the box. The limit is not in the sky, it's in the head.
  • And last but not least; put a smile on your face. You're not only more approachable, but also a positive attitude attracts positive things. It's not a cliché, it's a fact, believe me.
I hope you enjoyed this post and thought my tips were helpful. If you have some awesome tips yourself, I'd like to hear all about it. Sweet dreams!

Currently #1: October

Hi Bohomantics! I'd like to introduce you to a new section on the blog. Once a month I'm planning on listing some things that are currently in my daily life. I think it's a cool way to get to know me a bit. What do you guys think? Would you like more of these kind of posts in the future? Let me know! And now a big drum roll for the first "currently post" please.

CURRENTLY...

  • reading: Cassandra from the American novelist Dorothy Baker. I got this book from my friends for my nineteenth birthday and I have to say they know me pretty well. I love reading, so you can't go wrong with a good book. And so far, so good I must say. I really like the story. It's about a twin sister who can't accept that her other half is getting married. Don't expect lots of action and thrilling storylines, but if you are into strong dialogues and novels with a  good psychological insight then this is defenitely a go!
  • wearing: my new sunnies. I bought them in some cheap drugstore, but they actually look pretty fancy, haha! The color and the shape are to die for. You will defenitely see them in one of my next outfitposts.
  • eating: Country Store cereals from Kellog's. I never thought I'd like muesli, but guess what, it has become my favourite breakfast. Me and Mr. Breakfast have a little history, or should I say, the lack of a history. Until two years ago I never ate breakfast. Ever. Very unhealthy, I know, but I just couldn't get a bite through my throat. Eventually I've learnt myself to eat in the morning and I have experimented a bit with what works and what not. I recently discovered Country Store from Kellog's which contains oat flakes, whole wheat, raisins, hazelnuts and dried apple. It's tasty, easy and I'm not hungry until noon. It's also fairly healthy, but many people forget that muesli can contain dried fruits (high sugar!) and added sugars. Just sayin' ;) Not everybody likes muesli, but this is what works for me.
  • addicted to: Apocalips from Rimmel. You've probably read about the newest addition to my lipstick collection in the previous post. I bought the lipstick on monday and since then I've been wearing it almost non-stop. The color (Eclipse 304) is just so flattering and it perfectly matches my hair. I'm not such a big fan of make-up- the thought of removing all that crap before going to bed already makes me tired- but I can defenitely appreciate a beautifully colored lip. A bright lipstick can transform even the most boring look or tired face.
  • looking forward to: the Milky Chance concert on 11 February in the "Ancienne Belgique" in Brussels. I can't express how extatic I am about the concert. I am a massive fan of the German band and I was so disappointed when I discovered that their tour for 2014 was over and I couldn't get a ticket anymore (my friends can confirm that I was so desperate that I actually was willing to fly to Berlin for their very last concert in Europe. Please note that I'm afraid of flying). But fate is on my side, because they will visit Belgium for their next tour in 2015. In the meanwhile their cd sadnecessary is on constant repeat. Mmmm, you're my baby and your sweet, sweet sun makes me crazy...

Flowers are forever

It has been a while since my last post and I really missed the blog. I had to work on some important projects for school, but now I'm all yours again ;). I've planned so much fun posts for the upcoming two weeks, so defenitely stay tuned!

Enough chit chat, over to today's outfit... I was in a very girly mood today, so I wore a short flower dress. Flowers (and polka dots) are my all time favourite prints. An outfit is all about balance so I paired the dress with a basic cardigan and my new boots. They walk like heaven! You may have noticed that I'm a big fan of accessories. I never walk out the door without at least three pieces. They just add that little extra spice to your silhouette. I opted for some delicate gold jewellery and my favourite watch. It was my father's and is about twenty years old. How cool is that?! As a finishing touch I put on some lipstick. It's my latest purchase and I'm totally in love with the color. The lipstick has a sort of burgundy, purplish shade which is perfect for autumn.

As you can see, I never mention where I bought my outfits. I admit that for a fashion blogger this is not an obvious choice. But like I said in the first post, I started this blog as a reaction to fashion blogs who have become too commercial. Moreover, I want to stimulate you guys to walk your own path and search your own style. But if you really fell in love with one of my pieces, I'd be more than happy to tell you where I got it from. Just leave me a comment :) And that doesn't mean I can't write posts about my favourite shops and brands once and a while. But more about that later. Like I said, I have plenty of new stuff for you.

Sleep tight and see you soon on the blog, Bohomantics!

Tricks

It seems like I have to adjust the title of the previous outfitpost. I don't know how the october weather is where you guys come from, but in Belgium having 21 degrees in october is a bit odd- ahum, understatement of the year! The weather is playing tricks on me and it's pretty confusing. One day it's too cold to leave the house without a coat and the other day it's hot enough for bare legs. And yesterday was such a day. But hey, you don't hear me complain ;) As you can see, I went for an overall black outfit with some accents. The slouchy fit of the trousers and the cardigan gave me a laid-back look. To make it a bit more feminine and polished, I added one of my favourite pair of heels. They have like these little golden studs on it: feminine and sturdy at the same time. Some bohemian jewellery, a touch of eyeliner and my signature hairstyle, the messy bun, made it complete.

Are you having a hard time too, picking outfits during the transition of two seasons? Then I have only one message: layer up! Start with a top or a shirt, add a light cardigan, wear a blazer and finish with a coat. The warmer it gets, the more layers you take off. It's as simple as that! What do you guys wear in such strange weather conditions? I'd like to hear all about it!

Enjoy your weekend, Bohomantics!

Autumn's here

Hi Bohomantics! Today's outfit was all about casual romance. Autumn has officially started and days are getting darker. To bring in some color I wore a pink lace top and my comfy skinny jeans. To keep myself warm I paired it with this oversized coat I bought in France last summer. It's so comfortable and warm and it literally goes with everrrrrything. It defenitely won't be the last time you see this darlin' on the blog. Don't say I didn't warn you ;) It was just another schoolday so I chose a big handbag to carry all my stuff. To complete the romantic look I put on some bright pink lipstick. I'm keeping it a bit short today, because my bed is screaming for my name... Don't forget to follow me on Instagram and Pinterest. Take care!

All photos were taken by Mauri Sylvie Van Coillie. Thanks a lot, babe!
